THE SUN CAN BE

Bouda Gallery, 132 Palace Gardens Terrace, London W8 4RT
Saturday 9th August-Friday 5th September

Entry to the historic Bouda Gallery in Notting Hill is Free, open every WednesdaySaturday, Saturday 9 August – Friday 5 September, 2025.

Czech Centre’s Bouda Gallery, situated on the side of the former Notting Hill Books, lends its space to its first Summer Artistic Residency, hosting two different visual poetry exhibitions by British-based poets, writers, and performers.

The project aims to follow up on the tradition of the beloved former book shop to provide a safe and formative space for the local artistic community.

In Parentheses (language artists) are excited to announce their inaugural collective exhibition of language art in partnership with The Czech Centre London. The Sun Can Be exhibits the works of four british-based poets from across the globe displaying never before seen works of language art, language, and art, and new, never-to-be-repeated poetry in fresh, free weekly readings and events.

The Sun Can Be is an exhibition of poetry as visual language, as a response to modern ambiguities, and an innovative experimentation with the written word. Comprising debut works of visual poetry from four young British and international poets, this exhibition explores the value of space and safety in creation and innovation. From explorations with the isolation of poetry from the book, to visual pieces of language art that play with the internal realities relation to the external and physical, the works of this exhibition reveal an innovation in style and expression uniquely set within the wider context of experimental literature.

The exhibition is part of the Czech Centre’s Summer Artistic Residency — a pilot project offering a safe and supportive space for local artists and the community. Part of Safe Spaces Out There and Within, a network initiative organised by the Czech Centres.
